David Lee Provo Jr Friday, 8/17/07, 8:15 AM

To my fellow Brothers and Sisters at both Flint and Noonday FD. I have only just received word of the tragedy that has befallen two amazingly close communities and feel compelled to share as well as offer my deep condolences and sorrow to the families of both Kevin and Austin, the Noonday FD and Flint Gresham FD and all brothers/sisters including Chief Patrick Baldauf - a brave man whom I have had served under many times. Our job is a perilous one; each and every time we hear that klaxon we drop whatever we are doing and race into the unknown. We do this with impenitence, honour and compassion. On that fateful day there would have been no difference. To that end our lost brothers were, and always will be heroes in every sense of the word. You are all in my prayers during this difficult time; I am truly sorry for your loss and may God give you the strength, courage and grace to carry on. David Lee Provo Jr.

Every time firefighters get together we discuss safety. We look out for ourselves, our fellow fire fighters and the public. I'm sure the Noonday Firefighters preach and practice and train for safety. But let's face it, the only way these fire fighters could have been completely safe would have been to not have answered the call. As a Volunteer that is our option. Every time the alarm sounds we choose to respond or not. Ours is a dangerous profession and the only way to avoid the danger is to ignore the alarm, to roll over and go back to sleep. If we don't go to the station, if we don't open the doors and we don't crank the trucks then we are safe. But where does that leave our friends and neighbors? We are Professional Volunteers. The men and women on the Noonday VFD are Professional Volunteers. Our hearts are broken for the friends and families of Kevin Williams and Austin Cheek and for lives interrupted too soon. But rest assured no one forced them to answer the call. They were there because it was in their hearts to serve their fellow man. Cloddie Henson Cheif Perryville Volunteer Fire Department

I've known Patrick Baldauf since he lived with me as an exchange student from France. He showed me during that time how connected he was to his family in France, so I knew he was going to grow up to be a good man. He later married my daughter, Mindy, and he soon joined the Flint-Gresham Fire Department. During all those years, he always showed great dediation to his role in the fire department. Many times a meal would be interrupted by his pager, and he would be out the door. My heart aches for him as he grieves the loss of the two firemen-brothers from Noonday. Again I am reminded...we are all family.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of two firefighters. Being a 911 dispatcher, dispatching for both city and county fire depts, along with law enforcement, my heart goes out to the families of Firefighter Cheek and Firefighter Williams. Anyone who knows or is related to someone in public safety knows the true dedication of these gallant men and women. These men and women take an oath to serve and protect and do so with all their heart, mind and soul. These are the same men and women, someone's son, daughter, husband, wife, brother or sister who tend to or have tended to loved ones, played with small ones and made us all laugh at their stories and brought us to tears with other stories. So many will never hear of the loss of these two fine men, men who served, men who cared, men who loved, men who laughed and men who cried because like me they do not live in Texas. I heard of this loss through a dear friend who at one time served as a firefighter in Texas. I am quite sure that he too felt the loss even though he did not know these men personally. To the families of Firefighter Cheek and Firefighter Williams: I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for their dedication to serving others. They will forever remain heroes to me and so many others. There will never be a time that when I dispatch a fire call that I won't think about them and so many others. I thank you for loving them and supporting them.

I know that I have been guilty of taking life for granted. We saw Steve and Sharon at Bryan's wedding last summer but the last time we saw you was at Dad's funeral. We will see you on Monday. My brothers and sisters in Flint, and Nooneday, I share your grief, and feel the sorrow you have in your hearts for you have encountered something that we all hope never to have to endure. We go about our lives with two jobs, two loves, and two desires. We work to feed our families, and we work to provide our communities safety when in time of need. We love our spouses and children, and we love the communities that we have pledged to protect, never asking anything in return. We desire the best for our families, and we desire that in times of need, that our community gives us the support we need to make it through such a devastating situation. Our hearts, our sorrow, and our love of brotherhood will see us through. We send our condolences to you, praying that God Almighty will ease the grief you feel.

You guys should have a big party to raise money for the fire department and go out on the fire truck announcing the party on your loud speaker throughout the neighborhoods of Flint and advertise at our local school(s) and churches in Flint. Most people who have family who know someone who volunteers at the department would be willing to donate items for the party. You could have a silent auction. This would be a great spring activity for our community.

Hello there Kevin and Company, Just signing in to let you know that you are doing an awesome job keeping the world informed as to the activities at FGFD. Without a doubt my time spent down there with you all was immeasureable in terms of what I had learnt from everyone. If I was to have one wish;it would be to give back to someone just 1/10 of what I had learned from the program to someone - I came away with that much more!! Keep up the excellent work, and we will be in touch. dlp
